Nominate a student!
The Upward Project is a career-development program for high-achieving, first-generation college students from low-income families. Any Boston Public School guidance counselor may nominate up to two students for consideration for The Upward Project’s next cohort, which begins in June 2021. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a Boston Public High School, be available for Upward Project programs during the summer of 2021, and plan to enroll at a selective college or university in the fall.
We select for academic high achievers who plan to attend selective schools. We will evaluate every application on a case-by-case basis, but below are a few metrics from our current cohorts to give an indication of our selection criteria:
Average High School Weighted GPA: 4.4 Unweighted GPA: 3.8
Average SAT: 1330 (roughly equivalent to a 29 on the ACT)
Average EFC: $2,000 (50% have an EFC of $0)
College Matriculation: Wellesley College, Amherst College, Bates College, Barnard College, University of Southern California, Brandeis University, Dartmouth College, Tufts University, Wesleyan University, Harvard University, Northeastern University, UMass Amherst, Yale University
As guidance counselors submit nominations, The Upward Project staff will reach out directly to selected students to invite them to apply and to guidance counselors for additional information. Nominations are due March 17th and student applications will be due March 24th . Thank you!
